What is your favourite time of day to work?
I am an early bird, I like to get up early and paint. I usually go to bed thinking about my paintings, sometimes I am so excited about what I am working on that I will wake up in the middle of the night and get up and paint.
What inspires you?
Growing up in the country gave me a very strong and lasting connection with nature. The vast array of colourful flowers, beautiful landscapes and peaceful trails through the woods captivate me. These qualities of nature are what fuel my creative spirit and are reflected in my art. Although nature is my main source of inspiration I am also inspired by unique items and scenes in our everyday surroundings.
How would you describe your style or process?
My Watercolour on Rice paper (Batik) is more impressionistic; which is one of the things I like the most about it, along with the texture. I particularly enjoy working with the many alternating layers of colour and wax. With my small daily oils, I am somewhere in between impressionistic and realism, I love the texture you can get with oil paint.
Where can people see more of your work?
I sell my Watercolour Batiks through galleries and my oils through my studio and various places online.
What are you currently working on?
I am always working on new Batiks in various stages and I also try to do small daily oils as well. I always have many paintings on the go at a time, so I can continuously paint different stages while others dry. I am always planning ahead for my next paintings and looking for more inspiration around me.
What is your favourite medium?
Watercolour I think will always be my first love as it is where I started. The Daily oil paintings are very exciting and it is quickly becoming a close second. I love trying new mediums and I am always experimenting so who knows if that will change in the future.
What would you like to accomplish in the next three years?
Over the next three years, I would like to concentrate on more gallery representation in the Maritimes and hopefully, build a new (much bigger) studio.
